Wood Stove
Although the heat pump keeps the house very comfortable without a fire, if you prefer, a properly built and maintained fire in the wood stove will keep the entire cabin toasty warm and cozy, including the upstairs!
🪵 Step 1: Prepare the Fire

Open the wood stove door.

Place crumpled newspaper or approved fire starters on the bottom.

Do not use magazines or any shiny, glossy paper.

Add a small layer of dry kindling (thin sticks) on top in a crisscross pattern to allow airflow.

Place no more than 1–3 small split logs on top of the kindling.
⚠️ Do NOT fill the stove full of wood. Overloading reduces airflow, causes overheating, and increases chimney fire risk.

Step-by-Step Instructions To Build a Fire
🔥 Step 2: Light the Fire

Light the newspaper in several spots.

Close the stove door securely.

Keep the stove door closed while the fire is burning. This prevents sparks and embers from escaping onto the floor, which can cause house fires. Only open briefly when adding wood.

Leave the air control vents on the front of the door open until the fire is burning steadily.
🌡 Step 3: Adjust and Maintain

Once the fire is burning well (bright flames, strong draft), gradually reduce the air control to maintain a steady burn.

Add one log at a time as needed — never pack the stove full.

ALWAYS close the door securely after adding wood.
